Sinners (2025 film)

Sinners is a 2025 American period action horror film written, directed, and produced by Ryan Coogler. Set in 1932 Mississippi, the film stars Michael B. Jordan in a dual role as twin brothers Smoke and Stack. The story follows their return to the Deep South where they confront racism, family trauma, and an ancient supernatural evil.

Plot

In 1932, twin brothers Smoke and Stack, both World War I veterans, return to their hometown in the Mississippi Delta after living in Chicago. Using stolen money, they buy a sawmill from a racist landowner and convert it into a juke joint — a place for the local Black community to enjoy music and culture.

They are joined by their teenage cousin Sammie, an aspiring blues guitarist. Despite his father's religious opposition to music, Sammie becomes a regular performer at the juke joint.

The peaceful life doesn’t last long. An Irish immigrant vampire named Remmick arrives in town, fleeing Native American vampire hunters. Remmick turns local Klan members into his minions and begins feeding on the town’s residents. Tensions rise when Mary, Stack’s ex-girlfriend who can pass as white, is turned into a vampire and bites Stack.

As the town descends into chaos, Smoke and Stack lead the fight against the undead. The final battle sees the deaths of several characters, including Annie (Smoke’s wife), while Smoke sacrifices himself to protect Sammie.

Years later, an elderly Sammie, now a famous blues musician, is visited by an ageless Stack and Mary. They offer him immortality, but he declines, choosing to continue playing the blues — a symbol of his humanity and legacy.
