Is the Miracle of the Netherlands Possible? Why the Finns Don’t Believe in It

Is het mirakel van Nederland mogelijk? De Finnen geloven er eigenlijk niet in.

In recent months, many football fans have been talking about the so-called “Miracle of the Netherlands” — the idea that the Dutch national team could rise again to dominate European football as they did in the past. The Dutch have always been known for their creative attacking style, smart tactics, and the legendary “Total Football” philosophy. But is another miracle truly possible in today’s competitive football world?

The Finnish media and fans, however, seem skeptical. For them, the Netherlands no longer looks like the unstoppable force it once was. Despite the team’s talented young players like Xavi Simons and Cody Gakpo, Finland believes the Dutch lack the consistency and mental strength required to win major tournaments.

From Finland’s perspective, the Netherlands has not shown the same energy or determination that brought them success in the 1980s and early 2010s. The Finns argue that modern football is faster, more tactical, and less predictable — meaning miracles are rare.

However, Dutch fans remain hopeful. They believe in rebuilding through youth, teamwork, and discipline. The recent performances under new management show small signs of revival. Perhaps, the miracle is not about instant victory — but about rediscovering the pride, passion, and identity of Dutch football.

In the end, only time will tell whether the “Miracle of the Netherlands” can truly happen. But one thing is certain: the world will always watch the Oranje with respect, curiosity, and hope.
